Barbarian

Postby passionandparadox » Wed Sep 13, 2006 1:25 am

Discussing Greek philosophy, my professor pointed out the etymology of this word: "It's from aliens speaking nonesense, 'bar bar bar!'"

Barbarian (etym,dict)
from Gk. barbaros "foreign, strange, ignorant," from PIE base *barbar- echoic of unintelligible speech of foreigners (cf. Skt. barbara- "stammering," also "non-Aryan").

Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
