Anticipatory or preventive, as ''to take prevenient measures to avoid a disaster''.

Nice one Grogie! I wonder what has preveniented me from learning this word until now?

Yes it is Gail, but I'm not feeling too humorous.
Any time when prevenient would be more appropriate than preventive?

Good question Skinem. But why are you feeling "not feeling too humorous"? Can we help?

I'm thinking it's a great name for a commercial sponsor during Pre-election Political Telefroth Season. This is my first time through a big Colorado election; I was lulled by a familiarity with the faces...the names...the slogans...the issues...back in Wiscahhhhhhhnsin. Apparently there is an entire new world of dire consequences awaiting me here if I vote for The Wrong People.

As a consumer product, Prevenient® would come in very handy, regardless of region or personal bias. I can't decide whether Prevenient® should be packaged as an ozone-destroying aerosol (like a bug spray), as a white-noise emitting device for use in proximity to tv/radio/internet, or as an OTC to relieve stress.

not feeling too humorous either, but thinking it's better to laugh than cry or curse, until the brouhaha settles down again...

Thanks, Perry for your concern. I'm sorry for saying such a thing yesterday, but had just found out my father was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. (Caused, they believe by overexposure to radiation while serving his country.) He's got a great attitude though. Says no matter how it goes, he's ok. "If it's not this, it'll just be something else." Also, the same man, who, some years ago upon breaking his back (and not telling me about it for 3-4 weeks--we live 2500 miles apart) and me fussing at him for not letting me know says--"Son, you know how it is...you get hurt, you get over it." (So, now that you know way more than you wanted...) He's a tough old bird and he'll deal with this better than anyone else around him. He always has. And I'll deal with it fine, too.
If anyone does any praying out there, that'd be appreciated. Otherwise, the best help is to just keep posting--that's always a great way to brighten the day!

By the way, gailr, you better trademark that ASAP! I think you may be on to something with that name. I think Prevenient would be packaged as some type of drug (more profit potential there) along the lines of zoloft...I can just hear the commercial now for the new wonderdrug!
Prevenient, for when real world intrudes just a little too much!
Wonder what the side effects would be?

Skinem, your father's diagnosis hits pretty close to home. He will definitely be in our prayers, and you in our thoughts. And we will keep posting, as should you!

Perry, thank you so much for your thoughts and the link. Now I understand your avatar much better!

Gail, I'll just take some of your Prevenient now...
(You'll be able to retire soon, huh?)
Reckon PW already has a campaign put together?

Your Dad will be in my prayers too Skinem. Best of luck to him.
