Proxemics

I discovered this word a few days ago. It,s the study of the cultural and social aspects of human beings interacting with one another in a spatial setting(real space).

It is important to study cultural proxemics when laying out refugee camps. Certain groups should be kept separated, the ways men and women interact must be taken into consideration, etc.

This applies to prisons and gang members, too, I should imagine.

Prisons for sure. Some religious congregations even have
their women on one side, apart from men on the other.
The Jewish sacred Kotel is another example at the
foot of Solomon's Temple, the Western Wall.
