A good word, especially as we could squeeze a two-fer out of it and pair it with its pair, ingress.

Let's change highway signs and get people all messed up. We could have egress and ingress ramps. Don't forget to yield.

I learned this word when first reading about P. T. Barnum. Legend has it that in his New York City Museum, Barnum had large signs that said, "This Way to the Egress." People, thinking it was a special exhibit of some sort, followed the sign and ended up in an alley outside the museum.
