Next weekend

Just yesterday my wife and I were clarifying which weekend we meant. When I say THIS weekend, I mean the one at the end of this week, the one we are presently traversing. NEXT weekend to me always follows this weekend. Not everyone uses the terms this way. In fact, someone has proposed a new word - oxt - to sub for the way I use next weekend.

I've come across this one, too. Most of the time I say "this," I mean the upcoming. However, on a Monday I can easily see myself asking, "Did you do anything special this weekend?" The tense of the verb gives it away.
