There is no other word to describe her appearance at my New Year's Eve party. My girlfriend was swank, but not due to any ostentatious behavior or swinging. Check out the etymology - possibly from PIE "sweng" and from there to German, swacken for swing. But it was not until 1913 that swank began to mean posh or classy.
