Accusative Singular Declensions I & IV

The accusative singular in Declensions I and IV is not an ending but the following rule:
1 If the noun refers to an animate being, human or animal, use the same ending as the genitive.
2 Otherwise use the nominative ending.
Я вижу стол (inanimate)
'I see the table'
Я вижу студента (animate)
'I see the student'

Agreeing adjectives follow the pattern of the nouns:
Я вижу новый стол (inanimate)
'I see the new table'
Я вижу нового студента (animate)
'I see the new student'
